It is time to register for the Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase sponsored by Arkansas Capital for students in grades 5 to 8.  Let’s get students all around the state to learn how to come up with a business idea and to develop a business plan.  Let’s teach them to think like an entrepreneur such as Sam Walton, Charles Murphy, Jr., Patricia Upton, Forest Wood, Melanie Hurley, P. Allen Smith or the Carpenters.  Students from across Arkansas work in teams in their class or after-school program to develop their business idea.

  • Intents to compete are due on October 26th.
  • Business plans are due on Nov. 19th.
  • Top 25 finalists announced on December 13th.
  • With Expo Day on January 25th.

To help your students develop the entrepreneurial way of thinking use The Natural State Entrepreneurs online activity to introduce students to 10 Arkansas entrepreneurs.  Additional entrepreneurship activities can be found at the Bessie B. Moore Center for Economic Education website under Teacher Resources – Entrepreneurship.  Check out Puzzling Arkansas Entrepreneurs.  Diamond in the Rough gives a good introduction to costs of production, profit and loss.  Lots of additional resources, startups and success stories found on this blog.
