Understanding our economy is vital to entrepreneurs and is certainly important for all students.  I admit I may have a bias, but I think I have a strong argument here.  I have used the Planet Money podcast for years for my own knowledge and to educate my college students who are studying to be future teachers.  I find that these students often have two fears -economics and mathematics.  Planet Money makes current issues easy to understand, often with the inclusion of historical background information.  The Indicator is a Planet Money spin-off that uses a number to introduce a current event of importance in our economy. I find that these stories give meaning to numbers and help students see the value. Besides being interesting and easy to understand, these podcasts use fun music that complements the topic, thereby reaching more students in your class.

Use daily for a quick hit of insight into work, business, the economy, and everything else.  Or find topics that fit your subject area.  Want to discuss minimum wage with your students?  Why are coffee prices increasing if the price of coffee beans is decreasing?  What was the American economy like in 1776?  Want to help your students understand GDP?  Whatever your content, I feel confident you’ll be able to connect The Indicator.
