Many of my soon to be educators and several practicing Arkansas teachers are working to integrate STEM into their curriculum. Many educators in Arkansas serve Latinx students. Many serve GT or EAST students working on community based projects. The Clinton Presidential Center is bringing Dr. Ellen Ochoa, first ever Hispanic female astronaut, to share her experiences with educators and students in Arkansas. has logged more than 950 hours in space. Dr. Ochoa began her journey with studies in physics and electrical engineering which led her to log more than 950 hours in space. What an inspiration for all Arkansas students from underrepresented communities or who love science!
Information from the Science Education List:
On October 6 from 11-noon, we will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a groundbreaking (or, more accurately, ground leaving) guest for a student workshop. Please join us for an open dialogue with Dr. Ellen Ochoa, the first ever Hispanic female astronaut. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in physics and both her masters’ and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering, she was selected by NASA to become an astronaut in 1990. Since then, she has been on four space flights and logged more than 950 hours in space. If you have colleagues that you believe may be interested in registering their class, please pass along this opportunity. Registration is available for 9th-12th grade classes at https://calendly.com/cpceducationalevents/hispanic-heritage-month?back=1&month=2020-10.
