Do you want to make learning personal finance concepts more fun and engaging?  In this game, students select a genre, a film crew, editors, caterers and so much more.  Through playing Lights, Camera, Budget! they practice budgeting skills while gaining income by correctly answering financial questions on saving, investing, banking, interest rates, credit and so much more.

Lights, Camera, Budget! has both middle school and high school level games.  It includes a teacher’s guide that explains how to teach the PACED decision making process.  The video game was created by the Georgia Council for Economic Education, Georgia Public Broadcasting, and FableVision Studios.  It is a nice break from more typical classroom learning.  Students can play in class or it can be used as a homework assignment.  Incentives would make scoring five stars on their film even more challenging!  Learning about the steps to the film making process is a bonus and has extra meaning for those interested in the film industry.  Students are introduced to specialized workers in the film industry.  They learn to weigh costs and benefits throughout the game.  Students decide whether to spend more on experienced experts or to take a chance with a creative startup team?  Tough decisions!  I tended to be too conservative with my spending and did not score very well — until I read the teachers guide! 🙂  Since I was earning a lot through correctly answering questions, I could spend more on my crews.
